Christmas Eve Interview
In our culture, on christmas eve, we celebrate Jesus’ birthday by uniting with our family, and cooking tamales and drinking atole, which is like a warm, frothy milkshake. We also drink ponche, which is fruit punch that is served hot, like hot tea. It is important to you because our entire family gets together and eats, talks, hangs out, and enjoy what family time is. We’ve been doing this tradition all our life, my grandma’s side has a huge family, while my grandpa’s is all in mexico. My mom said growing up they did posada’s, which are 7 days before christmas, and everybody picks someone’s house to go to. It’s sort of like a party every night. It’s like a way of giving thanks for what you have in life. The gifts are given January 6th, when the three wise men came back, and then you had to give an item of your own and leave it at someone’s house so you could get a present.
